What fun we had taping the segment for the Texas Country Reporter!
The Cooking Depot (Cuero) was spiffed up in Texas-theme colors – from the window dressings to the tables decorated with white cloths with blue stars, and red bandannas as napkins. The crew arrived around lunchtime and got to work! The show host, Bob Phillips, is delightful. I think they were surprised at all the things Cuero has to offer. The owners, Annette & Erwin Rath, were interviewed, as well as getting the whole “story” of the propane shop-turned gourmet shop-turned cooking school.
Bob interviewing Annette
In the afternoon Dorothy Huang cooked up some yummy mini spring rolls. Bob even tried his hand at making them – he was a good student (perhaps because Dorothy is a good teacher!!).
What’s a class without “students”?
We made things ready for the cooking class for the evening. We had about 15 (very willing) “students”, who sat patiently through the stops, starts, and re-takes! After all, Beef Wellington (made from a perfect Texas beef tenderloin with the freshest and best mushrooms from our friends at Kitchen Pride Mushrooms in Gonzales) is really worth any wait, right? We toasted the meal with Texas wine, and finished with a slice of a rich Chocolate Mousse Cake.
